I support a well-known football team.
I won’t name names, although they are in London and have an incredible stadium. I’ve supported them all my life. No longer a season ticket holder, I may go to the odd game if offered free tickets by friends who don’t want to go…(every game at the moment).
My team constantly disappoints. “It’s the hope that kills you”…a famously coined expression that perfectly sums up being a fan of the club.
Our stadium is superb,…hosting Beyonce concerts, major boxing events, NFL football, and lots of booing. The manager gets changed on a regular basis, the chairman has departed, and the players don’t seem to do much on the pitch. The fans around me moan a lot (with good reason) and the food isn’t cheap. Parking is difficult, and the weather is often really bad,…not entirely the fault of the football club, although it feels like dark clouds permanently live above the stadium.
And so, after a chat with brother-in-law, we have decided to start supporting our local lower-league team (“The Bees”)…we’re gonna buy season tickets!
Less glamorous…players we’ve never heard of…and a stadium that can’t host Beyonce concerts. But we’ll be watching footballers who really want to impress. They’ll be playing out of their skin, dreaming of fame and big money !!! I’m excited to start supporting my local team. We’ll enjoy the day, have lunch, a beer, bring the kids. A little FA Cup run every so often,…actually can’t wait. And then who knows, maybe they might have a fantastic season, finish top of the league and get promoted ! Then maybe they’ll repeat this the following season, and again…until eventually they end up in the Premier League, and build a beautiful huge stadium where Beyonce performs, and the football is sh*t…
